Our mitochondria are hugely important; they are the primary means by which cells generate the energy that they require for a staggering array of cellular processes.
In addition to this role that is so essential to life, mitochondria have been implicated in a wide variety of clinical conditions. Of particular interest is the role of the mitochondria in oncogenesis and the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative conditions.
This blog serves as a platform to inform scientists, students and the scientifically inclined as to the nature of mitochondria, ranging from the components that build them to their functions and roles in disease.
